Cellist Glenn Fisher began playing cello in the 5th grade and played chamber music with his family. He spent several summers playing at "Music from Bear Valley". He was principal cellist of the Peninsula Symphony for twenty years. His teachers include Gabor Reijto, Margaret Rowell, and currently Stephen Harrison. He is retired from a marketing career at companies including Apple.
Menghua Lin, piano, has won awards and performed in Asia, Europe, and the USA. A native of Taiwan, since 2004 she has appeared at festivals in the Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Taiwan and USA. Dr. Lin has also been invited to give lectures, master classes and recitals in major cities in the US and abroad, including Chicago, Montreal, Ottawa, New York, Madeira (Portugal), Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Her doctoral thesis presented a stylistic analysis of piano sonatas by Lowell Liebermann. Dr. Lin is currently on the piano faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View and is vice president at Fortnightly Music Club. She was formerly on the piano faculty at Carnegie Mellon University.
David Miller*, soprano saxophone, is a native of Scotland, and has lived in the Bay Area since 1996 where he is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford. He has played clarinet and saxophone in various groups, chamber ensembles, orchestras and bands, and directed the Bell Labs Big Band in New Jersey before moving to California. He was a founding member of the Scottish Saxophone Quartet, the first such classical ensemble in Scotland.
Mark Schwartz*, alto saxophone, is one of the co-founders of the LGS Big Band and has been performing with the band as Lead Alto Saxophone/Clarinet since its inception in 2004. Mark has also arranged several Big Band charts for the band and took on the role of Musical Director from 2004 to 2006. After graduating from the University of the Pacific with a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Mark went on to perform with the San Jose Wind Symphony as Lead Alto Saxophone (2003-2004 season) and joined another performance group, Tableaux des Sax, a classical saxophone quartet. Mark has also performed in the orchestras of a variety of theater groups, such as San Jose Lyric Theater, Sunnyvale Community Theater, and West Valley College Theater. In addition to woodwind performance, Mark has also scored and recorded music for several independent film shorts.
Ted Brown, tenor saxophone, is a mechanical engineer who played clarinet, saxophone, and piano.
Jerome Nehemiah*, baritone saxophone, is a physician who started on clarinet as a young student and currently plays clarinet or saxophone in various groups besides the Sereno Saxophone Quartet, including a jazz quintet, two jazz ensembles, and the San Jose Wind Symphony. He is a founder, along with Mark Schwartz of the Los Gatos / Saratoga Big Band.
Violinist Ima-Karina* grew up in a family in Caracas that epitomized the cultural traditions of Venezuela through music and art. As a third-generation musician, Ima with her family group 'Los Narvaez' over the years travelled around the world from Venezuela via Switzerland, Germany, Prague and Moscow to India to share the musical traditions of 'Sangre Venezolana.' She was formally trained in the J.J Landaeta conservatory and worked at the FilarmoĢnica Nacional Orchestra. With a full scholarship, she travelled to Switzerland to receive a Violin Performance Degree at the Kayaleh Academy and a masters in French Literature from the University of Geneva. She served as a violin professor at Ludissima International School at Crans and at the MusicEnsemble Orchestra at the Geneva Conservatory, before moving to Palo Alto, where she currently lives and inspires a new generation to play the Violin.
Cellist Walter Halvorsen holds a degree in Violoncello Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with soloist Paul Tobias. He also studied at the New School of Music in Philadelphia under the tutelage of Orlando Cole of the Curtis String Quartet. He was a founding member of the Silverwood Trio and performed in chamber music series throughout the Boston area for 11 years. In the SF Bay Area he has performed in chamber music ensembles on the Cal Arte Ensemble, Fortnightly Music Club, Soiree Musicale and Stanford Hospital Bing concert series.
Pianist Ching Shih was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She was the first prize winner of Capital Youth Concerto Competition in 2000. She majored in Piano Performance and graduated with a Masters in Music from the University of Washington in 2003, then moved to the Bay Area in 2004. She joined the Fortnightly Music Club in 2007. She currently lives and teaches in San Francisco and enjoys performing classical music.
